MONDAY NIGHT MEETINGS
Staring in late August through early May, Troop 8 meets almost every Monday night (with exception to most holidays) from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the First Baptist Church Christian Life Center. Troop leadership and some specific group activities begin at 6:30 p.m.
Typical meetings consist of guest speakers, patrol-led activities, merit badge classes and many other exciting activities.
CAMPOUTS
Outdoor adventure is one of the most important aspects of Scouting. Not only does it allow a Scout to experience nature at its best, but gives him the opportunity to learn outdoor skills and strengthen his imagination and interest.
Troop 8 follows the camping principles of “Leave No Trace Behind“
Between the months of September and April, Troop 8 has at least one weekend campout or outdoor activity. These campouts typically are planned around a central theme that may be geared toward a specific skill or merit badge.
Please check the Troop Calendar for specific dates.
SUMMER CAMPS
Troop 8 typically sends various groups of Scouts to the many summer camps across the nation that are owned or sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America. These camps include:
* Camp Hood (Hazlehurst, MS)
*Camp Bob Hardin (North Carolina)
*Philmont (New Mexico)
*Sea Base (Florida Keys)
*Nothern Tier Canoe Base (Minnesota/Canada)
*Camp Orr (Arkansas)
For more information regarding any of these summer camps, please see one of the scout leaders.
COURT OF HONOR CEREMONIES
The Court of Honor ceremony is a special time when ranks of advancement and other special awards are presented to Scouts and leaders. Troop 8 holds three to four Court of Honor ceremonies each Scout year.
For a list of the Court of Honor ceremonies scheduled, please visit the Troop Calendar.
